New Seattle car repair company 'Drops the Shop'

SEATTLE — A new Seattle company is selling convenience when it comes to car repair.

Instead of taking your car to the shop, Wrench brings the shop to you. Customers can go to GetWrench.com and book an appointment to get their car serviced. An ASE certified mechanic will come service the car at a customer's home, work or wherever the car is parked.

Edward Petersen is the CEO for Wrench and started the company last November. “One of the biggest issues we saw was the headache that arrived for consumers with dealing with the basic maintenance of their cars,” said Petersen. “On average we find we’re cheaper than a dealer. We’re on par with an independent shop but people really love the convenience.” The company has about 350 customers so far.

Sydnie Taylor is a broker at Lake and Company Real Estate at Green Lake. She uses her car to shuttle clients and her children.  She's used Wrench to service her car for several months. “I just come to work and they take care of my car,“ said Taylor. “It’s awesome. I wish I would have thought of it.” She had a mechanic inspect her SUV outside her office on Thursday- she's getting ready to sell it.

Wrench hires certified mechanics who have passed a background check. They are employed by Wrench and are covered by the company's insurance policy. The repairs are under warranty for 12 months or 12,000 miles.  Brent Fetters started working as a mechanic for Wrench in February. “I do tire rotations, oil changes, brakes. I can do almost anything but pull the transmission out of the car,” said Fetters.

The mechanics know which jobs they are doing each day and bring the necessary tools and parts.

The company is based in Seattle and has mechanics working as far north as Edmonds and as far south as Renton. They are serving much of the Eastside. The business is quickly expanding.
