Tsunami watch for Hawaii after M7.7 quake near Solomon Islands canceled

A Tsunami Watch issued for all Hawaiian islands after an 7.7 magnitude quake near the Solomon Islands has been canceled.

The quake occurred at 9:39 a.m. Pacific.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said based on all available data, a tsunami may have been generated by the quake that could have been destructive to coastal areas that are far from the epicenter.

An investigation was underway to determine if there was a tsunami threat to Hawaii.  The watch was later canceled.
